Our take on a classic Bavarian wheat beer. Super crisp and refreshing with a nice, balanced phenolic character from open fermentation with a traditional Bavarian yeast strain, and hopped gently with East Kent Goldings hops for a hint of British hop aroma.

Clear golden amber brew, even after a couple of pours. Very light body with a hoppy bitterness from the start. Thoroughly herbal and leafy tasting. Pleasant aroma of cloves and straw. No bananas. Also, quite dry.

Overall, quite bitter and more watery than fizzy. Still, it has a noseful of the German esters, though more austere than most. The bitterness lingers unpleasantly long into the aftertaste. Reminds me of an over-hopped "Session IPA." From the 500 ml bottle.

Poured into a weizen glass. Pours a lightly hazy, medium golden amber with a two finger white head with good retention and solid lacing. Aroma of wheat, cloves, grassy hops and a hint of banana. Flavor is wheat, grassy noble hops, clove and straw. Light grassy hop finish with a touch of lemon tartness. Not sure I got a good pour on this, since it is not that hazy. It's an interesting domestic take on a hefeweizen, but not all that true to the style. I'm always up for a new hefe and/or anything from Machine House and wondered how this brewery with its emphasis on English beers would turn out this style. Although called Bavarian style, it is more like an English twist on an American wheat ale, somewhat more hop bitterness and with a distinct English twist from the Goldings hops. I like this for a change from weizens, it's an interesting and flavorful hoppy wheat ale.
