This is a different sort of "fresh hop" brew. The color is quite dark amber-brown, but pretty clear in the goblet. Some interesting aroma of alfalfa and straw with some dark grain. Taste is dark and leafy with a modest grapefruit finish. Dry and austere with just a hint of roasted malt. Fairly bitter aftertaste. Quite hoppy for an English version but still drinkable. From the 500 ml bottle.

Bought in bottle today at Belmont Station in Portland.
Very unusual look, brownish and murky. Is this the look of a traditional British pale ale? Strange for a pale ale in the US.
Even after bottling it retains the low-carbonation, thin-body dishwater (and I mean that in the nicest way) quality of a real ale.
Quite hoppy in aroma and taste. I'm not expert at identifying flavors but I'd say fruit, leather, funk, quite a bit of sweetness. And sharp hop flavor and some bitterness, beyond the fresh-hoppiness.
Odd one -- fresh-hop fiends might want to try it for something different. But lovers of hoppy red ales also might dig this.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium coppery amber with a quarter finger white head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of deep biscuit malt, floral and fruity hops, ripe, fresh mystery fruit and flowers, interesting. Flavor is biscuit malt, floral and fruity hops, ripe tropical fruit and tropical flora. Lingering biscuit, dark bread crust and jungle flora. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. I've been enjoying Machine House's fresh hops because they have the English biscuit malt character instead of the the standard pale malt in most local fresh hop ales. Now, I love the pale malt ones, but it's nice to have a flavorful change of pace. Glad to be in a region where fresh hops are local and can be used in a variety of styles. This one is unique in the interesting new experimental hop used, HBC 586. This is easily the most floral hop character I can remember. There is also a lot of fresh fruit, but no flavors I can pin down, but reminiscent of novel tropical fruit, very bright flavors that meld well with the floral notes; I'm getting distinct hibiscus in there, but it's quite mixed. Easily the most interesting and also fun to drink fresh hop of the year so far.
