Irish-style Extra Stout, inspired by the slightly stronger Stouts traditionally brewed in Ireland. Brewed with Maris Otter malt, flaked Barley and Roasted Barley for a rich, smooth stout that finishes with clean, crisp bitterness. Perfect served on cask and in our naturally-carbonated cans.

Pours a clear dark brown, near black, with plenty of dark tan foam in the Fuller's pint. Lovely creamy texture in the mouth. Bone dry, chalky, and burnt tasting. Aside from the excessive alcohol content this seems like a classic Irish Stout. The black grain taste is distinct but not overwhelming the pleasant malt taste underneath. Overall this is a very pleasant dark brew that is different from the usual American Stouts with either more sugar or more hops, or both. From the 16 oz can purchased at Skagit Valley Coop.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown with little light transmission in the glass and a fine, one finger dark khaki head with great retention and solid lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, light coffee and lactose. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light char, coffee, bakers chocolate and light grassy hops in the finish. A pleasant example of the style with good coffee and chocolate character and some hop bitterness in the finish. Appropriately dry; thought I detected some lactose notes in the aroma, but the taste is dry and malty. Nice.
