Single Hop Pale Ale
This one is hopped with Zumo, a new variety to us. It’s a super nice mellow Pale with bright, fresh citrus character. We brewed this with Maris Otter malt and one of our favorite fruity English yeast strains, open fermented and naturally conditioned in casks and cans.

Mostly clear and golden body; decent carbonation, coarse and lively; one-finger thick head, dense and creamy texture, long-lasting. Fruity esters greet the nose; muted orange up front; yellow pome fruit; peach and pear. Low-key biscuit malt flavor; citrus-like tartness; nice mild hop bitterness overtone. Medium-heavy body; very soft and velvety; light dryness.
This single hop pale ale introduces me to Zumo hops. The brewers used Maris Otter malt as well. Combined together, the ingredients make for a tasty, easy drinking beer. I wish I knew the canning date for this beer. I suspect it may be a tad old but it still offers some good things to savor.
ABV: 5%; pouring temperature: 53.7 ℉; canning info: n/a

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium golden amber with a half finger, slightly fizzy white head with good retention and slippery lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, citrus hops and lemon, lightly floral. Flavor follows with biscuit malt, citrus hop, lemon, a hint of grapefruit and a mild wildflower hay floral note. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. The second Zumo ale I've run across and this one seals the deal: I like this hop a lot. Considering this id Machine House, this is intended to be an English style pale ale and the malt is certainly in that category, but the hops are solid North American citrus which is the hallmark of this hop. Nice bright lemon notes with hints of other flavors, but the main lemony character of this hop works very well for a single hop. I look forward to Zumo fresh hop ales in the fall. A pleasant and enjoyable hybrid English/American pale ale. Nicely done.
