Belgian Dubbel brewed with malt smoked using Cherry and Pecan wood by our friends at Bombers BBQ, and then fermented atop 200 pounds of cherries.

18th Street missed the mark on this one. This beer is a mess. Tasted horrible.

Not really a fan of smoked beers and don't like a lot of Belgian beers. The yeasty after-taste I associate with Belgian beers isn't really my thing. However, I'm a big fan of 18th street and tend to try whatever they release.
I had this beer on tap at 18th. Despite my predication against the style, I gave it a shot. I really liked it.
The smell is smoke/Belgian taste I described above. First sip is smoke at the beginning, followed by the Belgian yeast profile of a dubbel. However, the sweet/tartness of the cherries follows and mellows those flavors.
It's a complex beer and tastes good. I wouldn't want more than an 8 oz pour. I wonder if the other reviewer had on tap or in a bottle, as he didn't get the cherries. I've got 2 bottles I'm waiting to drink and I hope they don't lose the cherry, as it balanced it out for me.

Appearance - The beer was a tinted straw color with a fluffy white head.
Smell - Bananas jump out in the aroma. This certainly smells like a Belgian, but smoke comes out toward the back.
Taste - On the initial taste, banana makes the biggest impression. Smoke lays a nice background to the bananas. If you like smoke beers, you may be impressed with this one. The cherries do not really do much for this one. If I did not know there were cherries in this one, I would not have guessed. The aftertaste fades to a dry banana.
Mouthfeel - The yeast attacks the back of the throat and lingers. There is some definite stickiness to the mouthfeel.
Overall - Not all 18th Street brews are winners. It is really not a bad idea to pass on this one.
