While the Berlinerweisse style of beer hints toward the taste of lime, the 18th Street team gives the style a shove into that direction by just throwing key limes at it, along with marshmallow and vanilla to bring the acidic wheat ale into the dessert realm.
Pouring a medium cloudy pale straw, Powdered Jelly Doughnut builds a loose and frothy cap while drawing in the senses with the tangy scent of lime along with a bevy of citrus, light tropical influence and a scant cereal sweet scent. Hints of sourdough, taffy and cereal apply a soft sweetness to the early palate along with a soft suggestion of powdered sugar.
As the lime-laced sour beer splashes the middle palate, the tangy and succulent taste of key limes seep into the tastebuds and bring with it the complementary zing of lemon, white grapefruit, yuzu, passionfruit, gooseberry, cider and white wine. Low on bitterness, the sourness carries the balance, while the taste of vanilla or marshmallow are tepid and largely lost on the late palate.
Light in body, but still somewhat medium for Berlinerwiess, the additions of marshmallow and vanilla aid in softening the brunt of sourness from the tongue while finishing briskly acidic and with a hint of earthy burlap. A brief after tow of sourdough, key lime and cereal nearly appear to be crust-like in character.

Quite a nice crisp key lime infused Berliner Weisse with some decent mouthfeel as well. No date printed on can but obtained this one directly from the brewery. Pours a slightly hazy lighter yellow color with some fluffy white head and minimal scant lingering lacing. Smells of key lime, vanilla, lemon, malt and a hint of floral hops. Taste follows the nose, good balance and flavor, quite juicy and refreshing. Clean crisp mouthfeel, good carbonation. Great with spicy food or on a hot summer’s day.
