been really into milds this winter, and this is a deliciously dark version, with almost a chocolaty malt bill that compliments the English ale yeast well. its a brown colored brew with over an inch of head, delivered beautifully by nitro tap. clean nose, medium roast, subtle fruit vibes, simple yet elegant, robust and adequate for cold weather consumption. plenty of dry cocoa in the flavor, with sweeter notes flashing caramel and butterscotch, before a goldings type hop finish washes the palate clean in one creamy flavorful swoop. its easy drinking, fuller bodied, soft from the nitro, and darker than a lot of milds. it works on a lot of levels, and while not being a beer that's going to change my life, its a beer I can see myself ordering again and again, especially in the context of de steegs other beers, which tend to be very high in abv. a great local mild, a step better than the one from epic.
