Deep mahogany brown, tan foam, spotty lace.

Earthy aroma, light phenolic spice, clove and nutmeg.

Earthy, roasty, light spice, and a mellow easy acidity. Complex and unique. Medium bodied, pops nicely with the light touch of acidity. Brisk carb, smooth velvety feel.

A cool beer with an autumnal profile perfectly suited for cool weather.

such a cool beer, they all are from scratch though. i just get so excited to drink their stuff, always an adventurous ride full of terroir and something interesting, and this is no exception. a solid porter as a base, a little simple which i think is cool, because it lets the fig leaf stand out, which it does quite surprisingly robustly in such a dark brew. notes of dark barley and roasted earthiness in the nose, but also a vinous sort of botanical tang here, a grape leaf type complexion, cooked and green, collard greens some something a little more astringent, almost medicinal, cool with the sweetness thats there in the base beer, almost like a molasses sort of thing. the fig leaf is cool in the flavor, not that i am super familiar with it on its own, but it adds an herbaceousness here, a wine-like property, and an earthy freshness not often found in a porter. slight tang at the end of this too somehow, and some obvious residual sugar to offset some of the bitterness from the dark barley. sort of savory, almost healthful as i drink it, not quite as carbonated as it could be from the tap, but lots of slick body and a long interesting finish with the fig leaf. interesting and impressive beer, these guys are just amazing!
