When I opened it the carbonation started foaming out the bottle immediately and the bottle had not been shaken. This made me skeptical that there was too much carbonation and upset that so much of an expensive beer was getting mopped up with a rag. Regardless, the beer was excellent and the carbonation refreshing.

I had this on draft 8/31/23 @ the Beer Temple.
Mostly opaque brown/orange appearance.
Small khaki head; minimal lacing remained.
Sarsaparilla, fresh wood & brown sugar notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Fresh wood, mild sarsaparilla & faint brown sugar flavors.
Mild, but interesting & enjoyable. I'd have another.

Pours a very murky Amber with almost no head that dissipates quickly.
Aroma is amazing truly smells like fresh split wood or fresh sewn wood.
Taste of a base sour beer with some citrusy farmhouse funk. Maybe some strawberry raspberry notes as well.
Feel as light but as you might expect for this type of beer but does have a slightly creamy element to it.
Well this is one of the most unique offerings I have ever seen. Its really hard to imagine the base beer whatever it is to take on the flavor of the bark just as it's labeled they seem to do an amazing job at this brewery

Draft at the Beer Temple, part of a tasting event with Marika & Aaron from Scratch Brewing. Brewed with toasted hickory, toasted oak, and untoasted wild cherry bark.
Dark auburn chestnut color with a reddish highlight in the glass. Thin layer of foam, lasting coverage and spotty lacing. Aroma is off the charts, a rustic blend of smoldering hickory/oak firewood that transports you to a forest campsite.
Woodsy and rustic flavors of bold hickory and softer oak. Underlying tart cherry skin fruitiness that also lending a mild tannic presence. Smooth and medium bodied, tart and fairly dry in the finish. Very balanced and nuanced. Really great stuff.
Per the brewers, there have been two batches of this beer, this one contains toasted oak, toasted hickory, and cherry bark. I've had both on draft, the 2nd one had a more prominent fruity tart cherry element under the woodsy toasted bark notes. It's included in a 4-part bottle series with "Leaves", "Flowers", and "Roots".

of all the tree and nature themed beers these guy brought out to colorado this year, this one might be my favorite. its got an amazing earthiness to it that i have only known in other scratch beers like the barrel aged hickory and the single tree hickory, among others, that real tree bark character, its amazing in here. oak, cherry, and hickory bark are used in this weirdly sour brew. its an interesting beer because the malt profile and the body of this are both especially light, yet the sourness is kind of intense, and the wood flavors from all the bark obviously lend a certain weight to it, but the beer is somehow delicate and easy going, its such a curious back and forth there, this has my attention right away. there are some raisin and red berry notes to this, black tea, a little smoke, and a somewhat immature light vinegar sourness, bacterially derived i would assume, a little astringent and simple, i might like this even more without the acidity, but it sure makes this a one of a kind. no hops makes it interesting too, a different sort of nonexistent finish. heavy bark flavors all the way through with a cooked quality about it, as earthy as beer can be, incredibly complex and unique, these guys are in a class all of their own with beers like this! one of my favorites i have had from them to date!
