this is truly one of a kind stuff, nobody does this, boiled with hot rocks from a live fire and fermented on fermented acorns, how curious, earthy, clever, and delicious! im not sure i have ever had a beer with acorns before, or even heard of them being fermented on their own, but this is pretty cool, it sort of gives the beer the essence of the oak tree without it being expressly oaky in the traditional barrel sense, although this is woody too, pretty darn cool! i get some subtle rustic funk here, maybe from the yeast, likey from the old school process, where the whole thing is boiled and fermented in wood, must pick up some interesting elements that way, but its dry and clean to finish. dried leaves, golden raisins, cognac, brandy, and light licorice to me. the grain base is simple but hearty, and the nuttiness the acorns add makes this really one of a kind. minerals and light smoke and a baked bready element give it some real structure and depth. enormously interesting beer, great complexity and uniqueness but also really drinkable and fun. it was a joy to try this at their actual brewery, this seems very much like a great expression of what these guys are all about! i hope they bottle this one...

Murky amber orange with a thin layer of foam, spindly surface skim.
Aroma is odd, mothballs at first, woody/nutty notes as it warms.
Taste is better, malty and nutty with a little bit of tannic bitterness.
Malty and smooth feel, full bodied, a little bitter in the finish.
Overall this was pretty interesting though I wasn’t wild about it.
