Brewer describes this as "aged in port wine barrels with tart cherries." Great spicy aroma. Hops are Centennial and Cascade, with IBUs rated at 78. Handsome rich amber color with plenty of suds.
There is a slight woody note, a touch of vanila. It's like candy, only not really sweet. Fabulous malty flavor without the sugary taste. This is just bitter enough to go with the drier sort of barley wine flavor. Less caramel, more hops, and the sweetness is there, but perfectly integrated.
A great showcase for Cascade hop aromas. Nutty flavor, tangy mouthfeel, and rich hoppy aftertaste. On tap at the brewpub in Solana Beach.
