Cloudy yellowish color with a persistent foam in the Affligem chalice. quite attractive, actually, with sticky foam and the bubbles coming up through what looks like pear nectar. Well here's a new style and the brewery calls it a "strong German wheat beer" so I'm calling it a Weizenbock. It doesn't taste much of alcohol but it may be the strongest German-style beer I've had. Aroma is a little appley.
There is a honey taste-- which I read is a typical ingredient of Kottbusser. It's sort of malty and on the sweet side. Oddly fruity and not tasting of the usual German esters. The aftertaste is bitter and I think of pencil shavings with that mineral taste. Quite drinkable but like nothing else I've ever tasted. From the 32 oz growler filled at the Ocean Beach tasting room today.
