We took our somewhat compromising, laid-back White Russian Imperial Milk Stout, The Dude, brewed with lactose and Tweed Coffee’s Toddy Roast Coffee, and aged it in Woodford Reserve Bourbon Barrels and featuring Houndstooth/Tweed Foxtrot Coffee. It is an insanely delicious explosion of rich flavors of vanilla, coffee, coconut, roast, and chocolate, which really tie the beer together, coupled with a rich and decadent mouth feel. Take comfort, The Dude imbibes…

Served at PHP in Austin.
Arrives in a tulip pitch-black with a dark khaki, frothy head. Lace is plentiful. 5
Chocolate, raisin, dried cherry, red wine and oak. Tobacco in the mix. 4.25
Barrel flavor is heavy. Red wine and bourbon like. Vanilla, chocolate and tobacco mingle. After chowing down pizza and letting the beer warm, charred brown sugar pops up on the finish. A bit of boozy flavor shows too. 4.25
Viscous and full-bodied with a current of lots and lots of beer that thins the feel but isn't hot, this isn't quite smooth and creamy. Yet it still drinks fairly easily

Vanilla variant served from tap at Pinthouse. It's okay. There's some vanilla smell and flavor. Also, it has dry chocolate nose and flavor primarily. A really good viscose mouthfeel. BUT, it needs something. The flavors aren't balanced. They compete with each other.

I had the Bourbon Barrel Aged version of "The Dude" (White Russian Imperial Milk Stout). Its called "The Big Lebarrelski". It pours dark black with very little head. The smell of whiskey is very apparent with oak & roasted malt coming in after. When drinking it, again you get whiskey up front but the chocolate, coffee & roasted malt blend well with an earthy, oak flavor. As it warmed up, it got smoother. The barrel isn't too prominent but for sure lets you know it's there. Excellent stout for those who love the style. When it comes to this brew, the dude does not abide!
