Pours a redd'ish deep, dark amber coloration with a small, fluffy head. Smell is dominated by sweet caramel malt, with hints of citrus hops as well. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by sweet caramel malt, with lighter notes of quite floral, citrus hops: grapefruit, tangerine and some herbal, almost resinous accents in the aftertaste. Finishes quite sweet, with a medium bitterness and some caramel malt and herbal accents lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

This is just too sweet and floral for my personal taste, with the citrus/herbal notes and good bitterness in the finish struggling to overcome the almost syrupy malt sweetness. Drinkable, but poorly balanced in my opinion.

APPEARANCE: Pours a one finger, medium-looser looking, white head with good retention. Hazy amber orange with lots of floaties in there as well. Higher levels of carbonation for the style. Head fades to a full wisp and leaves some lacing. A faint wisp remains until the end with some nice lacing down the sides of the glass.

SMELL: Pale malts, floral and grassy hops with light green apple notes. Maybe some pear and cantelope. Mild, but nice.

TASTE: Pale malts, caramel, and some nice bitter floral hops at the swallow. Some pear and green apples accompany the sweet caramel and melon notes in a bold and lingering hop finish. NIce, though more of a Belgian strong pale ale.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body with medium levels of carbonation. Enough weight, but not quite creamy enough for top marks. Smooth going down and finishes a touch dry on the palate. BItterness lingers.

OVERALL: Not an American style IPA per se, but a well done and enjoyable hoppy Belgian strong pale ale. A solid, well executed beer for sure. Wish more up and coming Dutch breweries could pull this style off as well as this. Well worth checking out. Recommended.
