Collaboration with Fat Head's Brewery
Ohio's hoppy beer artisans, Fat Head's and MadTree, have teamed up once again to brew an aromatic, juicy, and flavorful IPA called Lupulin Effect as a follow-up to last year's delicious General Sherman Rye Pale Ale. This IPA features copious amounts of Chinook, Citra, and Denali hops -- including a dose of Denali whole leaf hops in the mash.

I got a 4pck of this from my local meijer. It poured a clear copper with white head that is leaving some lace. The scent had citrus vibe. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with citrus start then floral hop spice finish. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a solid beer.

Pours a slightly cloudy deep gold coloration with a medium, frothy head. Smell is quite hoppy, with notes of citrus/tropical fruit: grapefruit, passion fruit, guava, pineapple and a hint of dankness. Taste follows the nose, being quite hoppy, but with light biscuity malt as well. Quite dank and resinous, with bright citrus/tropical fruit notes of grapefruit, orange peel, guava, pineapple and loads of pine. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and a lot of pine coming through in aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
This reminds me a lot of Head Hunter, actually, but clearly a lot more hoppy. Still it has that resinous, piney character with those citrus/tropical fruit notes. Even more dank and piney and slighty more bitter than Head Hunter though, excellent.

Look - Slight hazy copper golden color with a good tannish head and sticky lacing
Smell - dank citrus orange and peach with a good caramel malt backbone
Taste - bitter dankness with the grapefruit and orange peel. Different than what the scent would lead you to think. good caramel malt backbone
feel - medium body with a good crisp carbonation
Overall - I wish the taste was as good as the smell! For the price I probably wont buy again.

A - Pours a clear golden orange body, moderate white head, persistent, with lots of lacing both bubbled and long lines.
S - Full hop blast of pine and resin, citrus zest, and a melange of fruit from mango to peach to pineapple.
T - The flavor has a strong pine hit, a tart lemon and passionfruit tang, and a punchy bitter finish.
M - Medium weight, dry finish. A bit of grit is the main mark against.
O - Strong, bright hops is pretty delicious. If there were not a hint of grit, it would be a home run.

12 FL OZ can
Served in a tulip glass
This beer pours a hazy amber with some golden highlights. It is topped with an inch of beige head that leaves a little lacing.
I get light notes of citrus and pine. I was surprised by how much the malt came through with sweet bread and caramel aromas.
The taste is balanced between the bitterness of the hops and the malt. It reminds me of an old school east coast IPA.
Medium mouthfeel
I had huge expectations for this collaboration from two of my favorite Ohio breweries. I am saddened by the result. My local store got it last Friday, and it was canned May 1. This is my second can, and both have tasted like a bitter, old IPA. If it fell off that fast then it should not be in distro, or their distribution should be quicker.

Both MadTree and Fat Heads brewers know a little something about hops. Their annual collaboration leads them to a stellar imperial IPA that uses Citra, Chinook and Denali hops to their fullest.
Deep golden and slightly shy of amber, the Lupulin Effect pours with a voluminous ivory froth, lacing strategically as the beer falls. A radiant aroma of citrus, tropical, pine and herb wafts onto the nose along with a toasted scent of poundcake. Both bready and sweet on the early palate, those toasted, nutty and caramelized flavors roll onto the tongue with a taste of honey and light bread crust.
The middle palate brings a slight downgrade of sweetness and an elevation of hops. Citrusy with tangerine, red grapefruit and lemon, the taste trends toward a radiant tropical taste of pineapple, guava and passionfruit. Gently muddled pine needles, juniper and chive suggest a hemp-like finish along with a sprucy bitterness on the late palate.
Medium bodied but juicy with hop flavor and a linger of honey, the ale seems fuller in taste but its acute resins dry the palate and allow the gin-like alcohol spice to sharpen the finish. A long linger of fruit peels and pine resonate soundly in shockingly smooth but decidedly bitter aftertaste
