With so many newer, fruitier and softer hop varieties on the market it's easy to forget about the classic hops that put American IPA on the map. MadTree puts their research team to work to explore the full spectrum of the Chinook hop.
Treesearch No. 07 pours hazy gold with a billowing ivory froth before surprising the nose with a surprisingly floral and citrusy scent. Chocked full of peppery and herb, the nose is a bountiful display of citronella. But its malt impressions set the early stage with a lighter sense of caramel, honey and light granola.
Then the tide turns toward the hops once the ale crossed middle palate and the full flavor of ripe oranges come to mind. A hint of lemon, white grapefruit and pineapple support the orange flavors as the Chinook shows much more fruity promises than previously thought. Trending spicy, grassy and piney in a bitter and resinous late palate, the beer continues to show orange influence with the pithy bite of orange peels.
Medium bodied and carrying a clean and refreshing character throughout, Treesearch No. 07 finishes pleasantly bitter and with supporting but not balancing malt sweetness that dissolves easily on the throat. A linger of orange peels show much more finesse than ever thought about Chinook hops.
