Appearance - Pours a dark cola brown that sits neigh black in the glass, and develops a tan, frothy 2 finger head. Good retention, leaving
Smell - Fair chocolate notes, moderate roastiness and some earthy undertones.
Taste - More roasty in flavor than presented on the nose. Roasted coffee upfront, then touches of mocha and milk chocolate come through mid-taste and toward the finish. Underlying spice. A bit of earthy hops and a caramel undertone peek though as the brew warms. Long, lingering and pleasant coffee aftertaste.
Mouthfeel - Medium body with moderate carbonation. Smooth on the swallow, then dry on the finish.
Overall - American River does it again, adding a nice twist to the traditional Irish dry style with this brew. Really smooth and flavorful. There's no doubt now, American River is easily my favorite local brewery.

Pours two fingers of tan head on a black body. Looks amazing.
The aroma is rich caramel and roasted malt with hints of chocolate and coffee.
The taste is dry overall, a little roasted malt and coffee. And a lot of bitterness coming through.
The texture is crisper with moderate carbonation.
The taste and texture were a bit of a letdown after the outstanding appearance and smell. Still, an enjoyable stout.
