Pours a thin head on a clear darker straw body.
The aroma is caramel and honey.
The taste is mildly fruity: banana and pear, then more caramel sweetness.
The texture is thicker.
While it doesn't hit the normal hefeweizen notes, it's fine. It's like an amber/hefe ale.

Appearance - Cloudy and pale orange in color with an off-white half finger head. Sub-par retention leads to a mostly barren surface, with a thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass.
Smell - Heavy on the banana with moderate bubblegum notes and a fair clove spice.
Taste - Mellow flavor, with overtones of wheat offset by some banana fruitiness and a faint clove spice. Touches of bubblegum sweetness. Finishes with nice balance.
Mouthfeel - Light, with little carbonation and a watery finish, leaving a hollow impression. Easily the most disappointing aspect of this beer.
Overall - Maybe the most let down I've been with an American River beer. I'm a huge hefe fan, and was excited to see my favorite local brewery had released one. They've nailed just about every style they've tried, but they missed the boat on this one, mainly due to the dull, lifeless mouthfeel. The flavor could use a bit more clove as well. As it stands, Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis is still the Hefe King amongst American breweries.
