Tasted from an impressive-looking, wax dipped 500 ml bottle bought at the taproom.

L - Extremely dark brown color is almost black. No light shines through, even when held up to the light, but I get the impression it is just opaque and clear, not cloudy. The head is light brown colored and starts off as a thin sheet and ends up in a small ring around the glass. A swirl of the glass gives nice lacing and "legs" on the glass.

S - Aromas are pleasant, but surprisingly restrained. Bourbon is the main component, along with oak and coffee at lower levels, and not much else.

T - This is a delicious, layered beer. The flavors start with chocolate and coffee, then builds with oak, assertive roasted grains and sweet Bourbon.

F - Medium to heavy body with gentle carbonation. Strong bitterness from hops and roasted gains. Another reviewer complained that the beer was too sweet, but I find this bitterness and the alcohol burn keep it from coming across as sweet. Strong alcohol presence, but I wouldn't call it boozy.

O - I found this a very enjoyable beer. It has some strong flavors, but remains in balance (for a barrel-aged imperial stout).

Black beer with a little thickness seen when poured. A finger of brown head is raised with fairly large bubbles. The smell is a nice balance of coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon and vanilla. The taste has the same components with the bourbon being the most aggressive. A good balance of sweetness and bitterness.

Look is viscous jet black with 1.5 fingers of tan head.

Aroma is big bourbon upfront, bakers chocolate, roasted malt and maybe a hint of vanilla.

Taste follows nose . Big bourbon upfront, unsweetened chocolate, roasted malt and a hint of vanilla backing it all up.

Feel is creamy and smooth. Weight is moderate.

Overall a really smooth barrel aged stout that is quite nice.

Nice head production, but poor retention.

Tons of bourbon on the nose; a bit of banana from the yeast, along with roasted barley. Oak and tons of alcohol.

Very smooth on the palate, with chocolate, bourbon, char, toffee, caramel, and ash, along with oak. Nice bitterness.

Creamy and chewy.
