Not at all typical of the type of beer it has been advertised as representing. Appearance is good; with nice dark color and whitish-brown head that dissipated after the first taste. The beer has a very heavy chocolate sweetness that is not at all offset by the hops. Finish is heavy maple. If someone had told me that this was an oatmeal stout, I wouldn't have disagreed with them... If I had any control over the brewing process, I'd recommend adding more bittering and aroma hops; but I don't, so I'll shut the hell up.

On tap at Donkey Punch Brewing Company in Redlands, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, caramel, cocoa, and a slight cinnamon aroma. Taste is much the same with a cocoa flavor on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but the hop presence in this one is pretty subdued.
