Bottle at RBSG 17 Grand Tasting. Amidst a table of outstanding beers, sat this. Undeserving.Dark brown pour wit small head. yad yad yada. Roast grains in the aroma, lightly burnt toast. Taste goes south, kind of bland, unexciting, pedestrian.

Sprightly and crisp on the tongue, and more refreshing than a lot of these Brown Ales. Attractive golden brown with a decent foam in the tall tumbler.
Silky smooth mouthfeel with some malty substance. Warm and faintly buttery. The caramel taste stands forward without excessibe sweetness, though there is still a little sugar on the lips in the aftertaste.
Really an excellent example of the style and a great quaff after a long day on the smokey streets of San Francisco. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Whole Foods on Market Street.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.
Pours a clear dark reddish-brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of toasted malt, nut, vanilla bean aromas. Taste is much the same with toast, earth, and vanilla flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of toast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with interesting vanilla qualities I wasn't expecting.

Poured from bottle into glass mug, moderately gentle pour produced thick head which dissipated relatively quickly but did leave slight lacing.
Nutty and enticing aroma makes one want to quaff, and the taste was far from a let-down. A grand specimen of American Brown Ale, very nutty taste, smooth mouthfeel, not too much alcohol. Altogether very nice and I will be searching this one out again.
