Sample consumed at the brewery. According to the chalkboard behind the bar, this was 4.5% abv, with 22 IBUs. Normally I skip brown ales, but with only three of Slate Creek’s beers available at their tasting room, I had to try it.
Brown color, with an off-white head.
The aroma was nutty and slightly coffee-like, with a slightly dirt-like aroma (in a good, or at least inoffensive, way. Maybe “earthy” is the word to use).
Nutty and slightly sweet tasting. No hop character to remark upon. Stylistically correct, but a little boring.
The body was somewhere between light and medium, with a standard mouthfeel for the style.
A decent, no-frills brown ale. Nothing to write home about, but nothing to hide in shame, either.
