I was interested spotting this beer on tap given its siblings world class tier legend status pre-buyout. Alpine used to be a beer vacation destination back in those days. Which reminds me, I probably need to adjust the score on the OG Nelson since its a shell of its former self. But here, we have its hazy brother (or sister, whatever).
Pours a slightly hazier version of the other one. The other5 one was cloudy, this is cloudier I'd say, and sure, fits the hazy ipa designation. The aroma, jeez man its not even close. Smells like they made a cost conscious decision to drop the quantity by like 90%. Just vague hoppiness nowhere near the pungency of the former Nelson beer in all its glory.
Taste, eh its ok. But its not strong. I guess you can take notice of the rye provision (which is weird to make a hazy rye beer btw) moreso alongside the barley, wheat and oats. But this really smooths out what I liked about the former beer. Its a just fine beer on its own, but its like comparing the 85 Bears defense to the 86 - present Bears defense. Anyways, I added the beer and wrote a review for this Next Glass owned website.
