A nice dry stout, that really does have just a hint of pumpernickel flavor. Medium-thick texture plus a little bit of rye sourness in the middle before a toasty, malty, dry finish. Not a great beer, but still tasty, and the first pumpernickel beer I've ever tried.

On tap:
Pours almost black, but becomes obvious it's more of a dark brown as light shows through Ina half glass. There is a fair amount of clarity. Rather thin rim of off-white head, but nice lacing.
Nose highlighted by the rye more than the stout. Not too much roasted notes, but a big rye bread component to the nose.
Taste also is heavy on the rye - flavor and bite. I think this is a bit off for a stout-as it ends up very rough on the tongue. Funny how feel is sometimes an after thought, but for this it's actually detrimental. A little coffee-like flavor starts to come out as the beer warms, and it's bitterness actually balances the rye grassy bitterness a tad.
The should maybe be re-classified as a rye beer as that seems to me the main component that just happens to be served in a darker form than usual.

Caveat to my rating. First rye beer I have had. Also I found it too bitter, but I am a newbie.
