Style: American Black Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.20%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
A limited release Black Imperial IPA. It’s dank and delicous; don’t miss it!

Not a beer to bring home to Mom, NSFW is most at home in shady joints and dives from Mos Eisley to Gommorah. Born on a moonless winter night in the mountains of the Pacific Northwest, it made its way east, dodging authorities at every turn. So black it makes both pot and kettle blush, NSFW features criminal hop bitterness and a dank pine aroma that will make police dogs alert their handlers. Use with extreme caution, and don’t tell your boss.

Pour: On draft at the brewery. Poured into a tulip glass. Appearance: Jet black with a minimal off-color head. Aroma: Coffee, malty and a slight touch of background hops. Deep berry notes as well. Taste: Follows the nose with coffee, malts and deep dark berries. Aftertaste: Coffee notes linger all the way to the end. A touch of warming alcohol given the ABV. Overall: Very strong offering from Atlas. I really liked it! Very good: 4 out of 5.

Pours a dark chocolate muddy brown color. Very soft airy tan head.

Smell is slightly sweet, roasty, earthy notes.

Taste starts sweet, finishes dry. Roasted notes, chocolate, figs, bitter cocoa and earthy hops. Blended pretty well together.

Finish is dry and bitter, medium bodied.

At 9.2%, this is smooth and silent.

Poured on tap at Churchkey DC into a snifter glass.

A very light black body with super dark cocoa brown appearance and some red hued edges. Head is a nice coffee mocha brown and has some good staying power and leaves a nice whispy top.

Nice roasted dark malts on the nose, a little bit of ground coffee, and mellow silky dark chocolate comes on the end. Very nice.

Palate has a very good hop front, but the roast comes through. Mild grapefruit and a little bit of char, with a good hop citrus oil and zesty finish. Lots of milky chocolate as well. The palate feel is the most noticeable thing with a real nice silky texture that balances everything nicely.

Overall a real solid offering from a new DC brewery. Looking forward to more as always.
