Cervejaria Praxis "Portuguese Pedro APA"
.33 l brown glass bottle coded "L080624 04/2025". Sampled on 24 November 2024
Notes via stream of consciousness: It's poured a hazy amber body beneath a short head of off-white foam. The aroma is malty with bread and caramel, fruity with apple and citrus, and a touch floral, woody, and spicy. The taste follows with a surprisingly rich caramel maltiness. It's an APA but it's on the fuller end at 6% ABV so that makes sense. The apple is more subdued but the citrusy, floral, earthy, and lightly spicy hops remain. A stiff bitterness balances it and eventually dries it in the finish but it's really more about the malt. In the mouth it's medium bodied on the fuller side, and gently crisp-then-smooth. The head held up fairly well and the lacing is OK but both could be better. As an APA I find it a little dark in color, too caramelish and malty all around, and not hoppy enough in the aroma. That's not to say that it's not a good beer, it's just not what I've come to expect from the style.
