Nowadays there is a bit of an arms race to incorporate more kinds of hops into the same beer. The approach with the Cellarman's Reserve series is refreshingly different - each batch is brewed with a single hop. Great theory. Not entirely a great result. There's nothing wrong with this beer, but it is a tad boring - decent opaque color, decent sour citrus Sorachi Ace smell, but just not hoppy enough for an IPA (and I don't love them crazy hoppy), and the taste doesn't linger. Needs more oomph. I will plan to try a couple of the other Cellarman's Reserve versions with different hops to see if they are different.

Pours a dark opaque orange with a frothy white head. Nose is lemongrass and pine. Taste is citrusy, lemon, a little grapefruit and a solid malt finish. There is an interesting sweetart flavor that is very pleasing. Mouthfeel is full with the right amount of carbonation. I really enjoy how the Sorachi Ace hops are showcased here. This would pair really well with fish or a white wine chicken dish.
