CAN nabbed at a Trader Joe's in Austin, TX for $1.50:
Smell is herbal, earthy, and damp. A bit floral, but not fresh or distinct in that regard. Honey. Thyme. Herb.
TASTE: Showcases East Kent Goldings fairly well, but that's not to say that East Kent Goldings are the right choice for a single hop IPA. Drinks like a pale ale with respect to hop pungency, but I do like its herbal, honeyed, thyme-redolent flavour even though it doesn't seem well suited to the style and premise of this beer. Definitely has an English/Welsh feel to its hop profile, eschewing American hop flavours in favour of a more restrained hop flavour that isn't complemented by any other hop varietals. Finishes on a honeyed almost lavender-like note.
A refreshing ale for 7% ABV, but who is asking for an East Kent Goldings single hopped American IPA from a Texan brewery? I wouldn't bother with it again, but it does commit to its hop selection...it's just that that hop selection doesn't make much sense.
