Monolith is defined as a single massive stone or rock. That description seemed quite fitting for what we hope to achieve with this giant of a beer.
Monolith is our first foray into creating an insanely thick stout. With a prolonged boil, additional malts, and some cocoa powder, we plan to set this special stout apart from others with its viscosity and chewy flavor.
We aged Monolith in whiskey barrels for four months and the time has finally come to unleash this beast.
Stouts will never be the same at Martin House.

Canned 2/6/22. Good, but not great. Very boozy and a strong dark malt presence, but that’s about it. The whiskey asserts itself, but other than a mild sweet caramel presence, that’s it on flavor. A bit of a sticky feel, and again, thus one puts the alcohol in the forefront (not necessarily a bad thing!). I had two cans of this, and I honestly cannot remember how I felt about it the first time. Think I was right to rate the second, as time probably subdued it.

Opaque, jet black body; thin, wispy light brown head. Heady blend of roasted and charred grains; fresh ground coffee beans; caramel. Unbelievable flavor combinations; chocolate and cocoa, caramel, vanilla; nougat; maple syrup; sublime note of bourbon. Heavy, chewy body; rich and thick; viscous sweetness; light alcohol warmth offsets the residual sugars.
Wow! Wow!! And wow!!! Martin House did an excellent job with this beer, meeting their goal of creating an unblended, thick imperial stout. My relatively low score on the looks is primarily the lack of any significant head, but that is such a minor concern when we're into beer for the taste and aroma, right? And in those areas, this beer excels. I'm glad the box came with two 12 oz cans as opposed to one 22 oz bottle. Now I can set the other can aside and relish this fantastic beer again at a later date. Well done!

Poured into a snifter, it has a dark brown body that turns almost black when completely poured, it's head is thick and dark brown, thins out quickly into a very thin almost non existent ring around the glass. There is an extremely light reddish brown color along the body's edges.
Very subtle and smooth, chocolate, brown sugar and molasses followed by hints of vanilla and melted butter.
Smooth, buttery and accompanied by a rich chocolate flavor mixed in with light tones of brown sugar and maple syrup.
This is a full bodied stout, very warm and smooth to the feel and very well made, not one thing sticks out too much, well balanced.
This is an easy and smooth stout to drink given it's 13% ABV, this is a lovely discovery!

Pour is jet black with a deep brown / cinnamon head.
nose is marshmallow, molasses, brown sugar.
Taste is dark chocolate, dark fruit, roasted malts, vanilla, subtle oaky bourbon. Finish is slightly smoky with hints of leather, pipe tobacco. Could use a bit more time in the barrel, but still very good.
thick, creamy body.
