Canned 3/22/22. Poured at 57°. Black with ruby edges; creamy khaki head with some rocks; very good cap retention; heavy ring; spotty lace and thin legs on swirl. Mild bourbon nose. Entry is mild bourbon followed by bittersweet dark chocolate; mild oak; s some bitter roast in the finish. Silky mouthfeel; medium body; light carbonation; very little warm from abv. Overall, dangerously sooth and easy drinking; nice balance between base and barrel; the beer has aged well.

Deep, dark brown body; opaque in the glass; dense, long lasting head, spongy and sticky; thick, sticky, spidery webs of foam adhere to the glass. Interesting soft cocoa and boozy smell; moderately sweet on the nose; cocoa; a suggestion of anise. Boozy milk chocolate taste; licorice and peppermint; whiskey. Heavy body wit a hard to describe, counterintuitive lightness; very smooth, very silky; fine residual sugar feel; moderate alcohol heat.

A fine and subtle stout created with rice and barrel aged. The can goes on to state "A rice stout aged in bourbon barrels inspired by the number nine. Aged five months in whiskey barrels." I'm clueless as to what the reference to "number nine" means, but the beer itself is quite good.

Been a while since I had it, but I bought four of the two packs at the time. The body was a bit thinner than expected for such a big stout, but it worked well overall. Loads of barrel influence, but the base stout still came through strong (and what a stout it was). Hope they release this again.

Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a nearly deep brown color with a one finger head of tan colored foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading fast to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strong of a chocolate and coffee mixed with a whole lot of sweet caramel, brown sugar, molasses, and vanilla. At the same time there are aromas of cherry and plum as well as notes of char and smoke. Along with these smells comes a decent showing of a rice wine vinegar smell as well as a little bit of whiskey and oak.
Taste – The taste begins with a very sweet and malty flavor with lots of roasted malt, chocolate, caramel and molasses. There is a lighter coffee flavor as well, which grows a touch stronger as the taste advances. At the same time the sweetness increases even more and is joined by some graininess and a bit of rice, with some flavors of cherry, plum, and raisin accentuating the sweet even more. At the same time the whiskey from the barrel aging becomes more pronounced, brining with it some warming booziness. Toward the end some char and a bit of leather come to the tongue as well, combining with the rest to leave one with a sweet, and somewhat boozy taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thick and chewy with a carbonation level that is on the medium side. Overall good for the style and the tastes.
Overall – An interesting brew overall. A little to sweet for my taste, but a fun one to try.
