Appearance: Deep mahogany brown in color, impervious to light, with a massive, dense dark tan head. The lacing forms a thick and unbroken, irregular ring about the glass wall. Fat bubbles clump about the glass wall, below the surface.
Aroma: Massive aroma of caramel and toffee, with strong notes of honey, and vanilla. If I were blindfolded and smelled this, I would think it was pastry or cake, more likely the latter, rather than a beer. Some pleasant, vinous alcohol is present in the aroma, unsurprising with an ABV of 10%.
Taste: The taste opens with an abundance of vanilla, caramel, and dark toffee. As the taste progresses, the toffee notes rise. There is also a strong, wood-infused note of vanilla. In the middle of the taste, some mellow and warming notes of alcohol present; these are more felt than tasted. Late in the taste, there is a strong surge of vanilla and wood. Finishes with a lingering note of wood, earthy hops and burnt caramel.
Mouth feel: Smooth and very full, soft and delicate upon the palate.
Drinkability/notes: Another iconoclastic Martin House example, weirdly named, but over-the-top in terms of quality. Mr. Mummy is one of the beers in the "Marty's Little Monsters" quartet.
Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce aluminum can, served in a La Fin du Monde tulip.
