Poured from a can into a snifter
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden color with a small head of white foam. The head fades rather fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is rather strong of a doughy and caramel smell mixed with aromas of orange and tropical fruits of tangerine, pineapple, and papaya. Along with these smells comes some hoppy aromas of a sweet ruby red grapefruit and a bit of herbal hop. Overall, the aroma is rather inviting.
Taste – The taste begins with a rather malty taste with a good showing of a bready and doughy malt flavor that is paired with some caramel and the tropical fruits that were in the nose. At the same time there is an herbal and grapefruit hop, both of which get stronger as the taste moves forward. All the while some pine and a bit of earth join in and combined with the other hops to produce a nice diversely hop taste profile. With a bit of an increase in the malt at the end, one is left with a rather smooth and moderately hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and chewiness with a lower but creamy carbonation level. For the style and the taste profile the feel is rather nice and creates a nice slow sipper that accentuates the flavors rather well.
Overall – A rather nice imperial IPA overall. It has a god hop taste blend and has a decent amount of malt to support all the flavors rather well. Overall, a nice slow sipper.
