Deep brownish black in color with a moderately dense tan head. Smells faintly of ginger (it's kind of generically herbal) and molasses. The ginger comes through much more strongly in the flavor. Too strongly, in fact—it's overwhelming, more like one of those ginger candies you chew for a cough than gingerbread.

I've had a number of Martin House's seasonal/experimental brews, and they're hit or miss. This one is a hit. Give it a try.

Pour is black, very little head.
Medium bodied.
Strong cloves. The gingerbread essence does come through.

A good one, will acquire another.

Appearance: Cola-colored, with a massive, dense and persistent cloud top tan head, with superb retention. Masses of bubbles adorn the glass wall beneath the surface. Chunky, irregular lacing adorns the glass wall.

Aroma: Massive notes of ginger dominate the aroma, along with a note of molasses, this is quite evocative of homemade gingersnaps. The relatively high ABV of 8% is artfully concealed, offering just a hint of spiciness.

Taste: From start to finish, the taste is about gingerbread, though it is never excessive or off-putting, and has a very natural taste.. At the taste's open, beside gingerbread, there is dark bread, cinnamon and a bit of caramel and molasses. It is really like gingerbread, but in a drinkable form. Late in the taste, there are some mild herbal hops to offset the sweetness. The finish is dominated by gingerbread, and lingers on and on.

Mouth feel: Rich and full, soft and very pleasant, offering only a hint of carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: Another excellent Martin House offering, very well suited to the holiday season. This would pair vey well with a spice cake or a Christmas fruitcake.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve ounce aluminum can, served in a La Fin du Monde tulip.
