Pretzel Stout Peanut Butter is next on the review table. Since I found this brewery's Best Maid Pickle Beer, I always try to acquire other stuff they create. Martin House comes up with catchy names; I am a sucker for that. One of my favorite snacks at Costco is the peanut butter pretzel; those are dangerous. Seeing this combination in beer form, I was all in.
Served at 48 degrees in a tulip glass. The pour created a creamy, airy, light tan two-fingered head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left a bit of lacing on the glass's sides. The color is dark brown, nearly black, charting around SRM 34. The appearance is above average for this style.
Nosing the glass, the smell of freshly baked pretzels with peanut butter blasts out of the glass. Smelling the beer again, I detect chocolate, molasses, dark roasted malts, salt, burnt sugar, malty sweetness, and notes of coffee. This beer smells incredible and makes my mouth water.
The dominating flavors are pretzels, chocolate, char, peanut butter, and smokiness. Sipping the glass again, I taste malty sweetness, burnt sugar, caramel, molasses, toasted bread crust, salt, and coffee.
The mouthfeel is thick, finishing dry. The body is medium-plus and has a medium-low carbonation.
Wow, this beer is fantastic. Would Martin House decide to do a barrel age? I would pay to try it, bourbon with pretzel and peanut; ugh, hell yeah, I would try it. It's tasty stuff; glad I bought this beer.
