Digging into the cellar, I opted for a Martin House beer. I am using a tulip glass and serving it at 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, airy, one-fingered, light tan head with average retention. The somewhat quick dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The beer's color is dark amber with rusty orange hues, charting at S.R.M. 14 and is hazy. The appearance of the sour is average for this style; there have been a few with a longer-lasting head.
Nosing the glass, I smell ripe peaches, acidic acid, wood, earthy sweetness, and fruity sweetness. Smelling the glass again, I detect whiskey, light char, toasted malts, and earthiness. The sour beer aromas are not nose-burning but more in a collective harmony.
The first aromas started with ripe sour peaches soaked in whiskey, with a subtle fruity sweetness to offset the sourness. Sipping the beer again, I noticed oak, char, light caramel, floral blossoms, earthiness, and toasted malts. On the back end of the beer, I noticed desert air and an herbal note. The beer is overly sour but has a lovely harmony.
The body is medium with medium carbonation. The finish is tannic and has a puckering, astringent mouthfeel.
This is an interesting beer. I expected this over-aged sour beer with little sourness. What I got was this lovely sour peach beer with harmonious barrel notes that balanced the beer out. I love the ripe sour peaches mixed with the whiskey, like a whiskey sour at the bar, but not cloyingly sweet. It was a delightful surprise, and there was no off-flavor.

Look: clear amber with a thick off-white head
Aroma: The aroma is fruity, peach and whiskey. There's more whiskey in the aroma then in the flavor.
Flavor: The flavor is tart peach, lemon and whiskey. It leaves a tart and sweet aftertaste that I find very nice.
Body/Overall: medium body, I think it is delicious but then I like it tart.
