The beer of many names. It was hard to decide between "Roadhouse Coffee" and
"Sixteen Tons", but here we are. This is one of our highest abv brews we've ever released.
Roadhouse Coffee is a giant 16% imperial stout aged in whiskey barrels for 3.5 months.
We added coffee to give it that roadside, diner feel. It's a very dark brew. We then added lactose to compliment the roasted malts and sweeten it up just a bit.
Roadhouse Coffee is another delicious barrel-aged stout that MHBC fans will love.

12 oz. can (2 in an artful box) Canned 4/4/24, sampled 5/11/24.
Aroma: Toffee, marshmallows, coffee, dark malt, maple syrup. Very sweet, very dense.
Appearance: Inky black, it laughed at serious backlight and just blocked it after a couple millimeters. Holds a thin halo of dark tan head that powder coats the glass as it recedes.
Taste: Very sweet, marshmallow, toffee, dark malt, there are barrel and coffee notes, and they are strong, but still buried under a super sweet coat. Makes for a complex and very drinkable beer, dangerously drinkable for 16%. There's a complete candy store in here, Pixie Sticks, Sweet-tarts, Tootsie Roll, bubble gum, hard toffee, really impressive.
Mouthfeel: As you would guess, heavy, full chew, low carbonation, slick texture, mouth coating finish.
Overall: I get fleeting glimpses of alcohol here and there, but there is so much going on you have to try and notice it. They went biiiiig, and I like it. Will try to grab another 2 can box, their art department is just killing it on those.

Tried this beer in September 2025. Mine lists the ABV as 14.9%, and states it was aged for 7.5 months. First of all, a beautiful beer! Black as night, and has the chewy mouthfeel you expect with this style. Definitely get the coffee flavor, but not one-dimensional as with some other coffee forward beers. There's very little alcohol burn, and it's almost too easy to drink for the ABV being so high. Although it qualifies as a dessert beer for me, it wasn't as sweet as I expected, which I appreciate.

Massive. Superdense. Brilliantly designed, gracefully, successively executed.
Bravo!! Not what I expected. Glad to get what I got. Hope they take it easy with the artificial flavorings in some of their beers. Yikes!

Nose is a huge wave of freshly roasted coffee. Hints of vanilla, chocolate, bourbon.
Taste follows. A huge wave of freshly roasted coffee, latte, vanilla, chocolate. The bourbon is subtle, but present on the finish. Enough roasty bitterness to keep things balance.
Thick, creamy body. Doesn't get overly sweet or cloying
Excellent beer. As with a lot of Martin Houses barrel aged beers, this didn't spend a ton of time in the barrel, and, I think, could have been an even better beer with more time in the barrel. Still very good, but doesn't quite have that huge hit or wonderfully interwoven bourbon soaked coffee.
