L- Chestnut orange. It was pouring clear until the end when some sediment lifted. There is a partial cover of white foam plus a peripheral ring. No surprise there isn't a head considering how high the ABV% is. This is blind-tasted except for the name and ABV, but looking into the now empty bottle I can see the sediment that remains there.
S- Reminds me of a barley-wine, it has a facet of that British Xmas-pudding deep fruity richness to it,
T- Deep stewed dark fruits, with full bold malts balanced by a solid dry-hoppy 'rise' into the finish. That dry finish includes a zing across the palate and that sensation could incorporate ABV%-zing. Ie the high ABV% is apparent - not that I'm complaining, though some dislike it.
F- Oh it's BIG! I've enjoyed many beers up to c18% and for 'a mere 11%' this is quite some thumper. Good for slow-sipping, good for winter.
O- It's enjoyable, though unless you're into notably full-bore brews it might be better to plan on sharing a bottle. A surprise is how much higher than it's already high ABV it's punching. If I didn't know it's ABV (having listed the beer!) I'd probably guess 15%. Nothing to note out of place or balance. Would I buy it again... unlikely, as interesting as it is it's seriously full on.
Bought from Beers of Europe for home delivery. 330ml bottle. 'Contains: Brewing sugar' whatever that is. BBE June-2023.
