L- Dark chestnut red, pours slightly hazy with 2Cm pale tan head. The head holds well which is pretty amazing considering the ABV% and the surface-tension of the liquid.
S- Yep, wine-like and puddingy as in the trad Xmas 'plum-pudding', just no custard here with it.
T- Wooooah! 1st sip takes say 3 seconds to build on the palate then boom you realise what it's just done. But's it's very polite at the same time, even understated. Deep stewed fruits, richness, a warming dessert wine aspect (sherry, madeira?) into a balancing hoppy and quite dry finish. That repeats sip after sip, it still has a 5mm head and my palate is hanging in fresh and loving this.
F. It's pretty full on, a slow sipping beer for me. CO2 in the mouth is great. I'm glad I started this one chilled as as I take it slowly it's warming a touch and the rich becomes more sweet to me.
O- It's very good, lovely balance. Could have been quite a thumper but it's cleverly understated. One esp for winter. For the price it seems entirely reasonable. Well done 8Sail, an accomplished brew!
Bought from the Real Ale Store. £5.45 330ml bottle BB=? Can't find it anywhere but I'm unfussed this elixir might be robust enough to survive an ice age.
