Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served deep-black color with a tiny cream colored foam head. The head fades very rapidly leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is massive of a raosted malt smell mixed with tons of nice hop of a pine and earthy nature. Along with these smells comes some lighter caramel and molasses aromas along with a little bit of a grapefruit hop smell.
Taste - The taste begins with a rather roasty and slightly caramel sweetened flavor. While dark and roasty upfront, the hop is light, but this soon changes. A good sum of a grapefruit hop taste hits the tongue in the middle of the taste followed by more and more hop flavors of a pine and an earthy nature. With a loss of much of the caramel taste but a little bit of a coming of a molasses tastes and a nice increase in all the hop tastes, one is left with a nicely hopped and quite roasty and lightly sweetened flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the average side for the dark IPA style with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the dark roasty flavors mixed with a good sum or hop and a little bit of sweet, the feel is fantastic and makes for a very nice drinking dark roasty brew overall.
Overall – A quite roasty and nicely hopped black IPA. A rather nice drinker and one to try if you get a chance.
