12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass

A: Pours a dark orange with a white head, no head retention, some slight lacing, beer is clear, looks little under carbonated.

A: Nice hop presence, grapefruit, pine, resin, malty sweetness, vanilla , no alcohol at all on the nose, smells pretty good.

T: Like the nose, hint of grapefruit, citrus peel, resin, nicely balanced with some malts, very tasty beer.

M: Light-medium bodied, crisp mouthfeel, semi-dry finish.

O: I'd drink this regularly during the summer, has a nice hop presence with some pine and citrus peel, malt backbone, flavor, easy to drink, very tasty beer. It's not available in California as I picked this up in a trade.

Pours a clear gold with an inch of foam. Lacing? There's Plenty of it.

Pine and grapefruit in the smell that is of the dank side. More hoppy than bitter.

Tastes enjoyable. Hops bring pine and grapefruit notes that border on being wet hop like. Malt is subdued but there. A bit of biscuit but nothing sweet. Overall, I would say that this is a an example of a dank APA.

mouthfeel is pretty awesome.

Delicious and very drinkable. Cheers Jay!

super cool to see them bottling this. i got to have the fresh hop edition on tap at the brewery this weekend, and it was stellar. i would push it almost into the ipa category just by the sheer volume of hops on it, they totally dominate the flavor profile. maybe a shade short on the bitterness front for that, but the distinction here is minimal. juicy tropical and citrus forward hops are the major agents of smell and taste in this otherwise neutral pale ale type. there is a hint of color to it, but no signs of crystal malt in flavor or in sweetness. its all hops, remarkably fresh, pungent, and tropical. mandarin orange, passion fruit, and mango all come to mind, but this isnt sweet, in fact quite the opposite. its almost piquant right in the middle, oily from the hops obviously, but still insanely drinkable. just a touch of leftover sugar on the back end, but radiant carbonation keeps it at bay on the palate, and the takeaway here is that these hops are awesome. i think they use a lot of local ingredients, which would explain the incredible freshness of this brew. not the most inventive, but one of the better executed i have had this year. a perfect companion to their smoked chicken wings, which also rank among the best out there. one of the best montana beers ive had.

edit: the cans of this are awesome too, more bitter than i ever remember it being before, almost intensely so at times, but its resolved in the finish and still tasting super fresh. a great american pale ale in any format!

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – The beer pours a nice golden amber color with a tiny fizzy white head. The head actually has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the beer is rather strong of a caramel smell mixed with a decent showing of a bready nature. Along with these aromas comes some lighter smells of a light pine and citrus hop smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a bready and slightly sweeter taste of caramel and a little bit of some lighter harvest fruits of pear and apple. As the taste advances the sweeter and bready tastes fade ever so slightly but are replaced by some lighter grainy flavors as well as some hop taste of a citrus and pine nature. With a decent showing of some hay and grass at the very end, one is left with a rather sweet and malty but lightly hopped and hay/grass’ed flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the slightly thicker to average side for a pale of its abv., with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the more malty and sweet nature of the brew the feel is actually rather appropriate for a pale and make for a rather richer more malty feel all while still upholding the lighter hop flavors enough so they make a presence.

Overall – A pretty decent pale overall. It is certainly a bit more malty and a bit lighter in the hops, but overall, it is rather enjoyable and drinkable. It is one to at least give a try or two to, to see if it is one you enjoy.

extremely solid APA and just freshly bottled these last couple weeks, wish the bottles were dated which will lead to variation down the road on rating but I will be be drinking this exclusively for the next couple weeks
