both of my parents were raving about this so i had to try it. its a great lager, more robust than a lot of these ever are, deeper in color, malt character, and with a bigger body too, just more of a fall beer than i usually think of the style as being, and i dig that. its all of these things without being heavy or sweet too, it still finishes relatively quickly for what it is, and has a sort of european authenticity to it to me, at least in the yeast. its got a lot going on, notes of dried fruit, red apple and raisin come to mind, but also a bran and dark bread baked complexion as well. the yeast has a light doughy note and its here all the way through the beer, while some bittering hops rise up late and help this finish relatively balanced. overall this is a nice deep malty lager than doesnt have the sweetness of a vienna type, or the lightness of a traditional marzen, but still seems super appropriate for the fall, and fits in well with the season. a very well executed and fairly robust malt driven lager, nicely done. the beers in here are always so solid and professional, no matter what they are making.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a clear stone red color with a one finger head of fizzy off white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave some rings of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is big of a caramel and slightly bready aroma mixed with a moderate showing of toasted malt. Along with these aromas comes some very light notes of nut and earth.
Taste- The taste begins with a sweeter caramel and lightly toasted malt flavor and a little bit of dough. These flavors create a base taste for the brew and last throughout. As the taste advances a little bit more sweetness of a molasses nature, as well as some more roast and a little bit of nut and some light earth come to the tongue, and leave one with sweet and lightly toasted taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is average in terms of thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is average as well. Overall the feel is great for the mix of sweet and light roast and makes this an easy drinking brew.
Overall – A decent brew with a sweeter flavor a little bit of nice roastiness. This would make a good Octoberfest brew in my mind. Well worth a try at least.
