limited release 0003, not sure if this differs from batches they have brewed in the past, but its my first time with it and its excellent, despite other elements of whats going on here seeming to have fallen off since ive been in, way less beers on tap, much less exciting and well executed food, and weirdest of all, no crowd, strange. anyway, this is done with treeline coffee which rules, as well as cocoa nibs, and its very robust for its lower abv, a perfect morning beer, and something quite cozy for the lingering winter. coal black in the glass under most of an inch of cream mocha head, nice density and retention to the foam, a muted shine to this, some body apparent. the aroma is awesome, must be cold brewed coffee, low acid, deeper than expected roast, and super fresh to me, impressively nuanced as well, definite chocolate to it, licorice, and faint smoke, very compatible with the especially bold dark grain base in this, i like them going for it, and the depth added by the cocoa nibs is cool too, really pretty complex, perhaps slightly english on the yeast too, a little something bready there bringing it all together. the flavor is really coffee forward, even more than the nose to me. its earthy and dark, its got some nuttiness to it, and it plays super well with the nibs, perfect match. there is great bitterness to this all the way through, its never sweet at all although there is trace vanilla to it, and it closes pretty quick even with all this flavor. nice medium body, warms up well, and lots of depth to this, very well made, and its obvious that the coffee they used for this is wonderful. delicious brew.
