This deliciously complex red is layered with floral hop aromas on nose, caramel malt flavors, a touch of rye and light bitterness to finish.

February 27th, 2015 - A spicy red ale, the Mosh Pit is a nice little prick to the tongue, with its spicy cinnamon and Apple Jacks aroma. Deeper still is a caramel and tahini richness with I huff with glee. The flavor is more savory than the aroma, with a thinnish body expressing the somewhat bitter tastes of red Virginia tobacco, toffee and cinnamon. It's a flavor that is interesting enough that I both like it and dislike it. There's a heavy vein of caramel running in there too, but more bitter than sweet.

Pour from a 22 into a pint. A nice, deep red with a short beige head. Aroma hints at malty sweetness, as expected in a red. There is a nice citrus hop nose as well. The flavor delivers well on the aroma promise: malty sweetness with a balance of hop, mainly citrus with some pine. The combination in this beer gives a faint taste of raw cigar tobacco in the middle, which is pleasant (even though I don't like cigars). Finish has pine hop. A solid effort on the hoppy red genre. I will try other offerings from this brewery.

On tap at the brewery taproom In San Diego.

Pours deep brownish-red-with a good beigevhead that leaves some spotty lace on the glass.

Aroma: sweet malts and hops in about equal measure.

Flavor: plenty of herbal/floral/fruity hops.

O: a well crafted red APA.
