Poured into a Fremont small snifter. One year old properly cellared bottle. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a fine, one finger brown head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cocoa, whiskey, molasses. Flavor is mellow dark toasted malt, whiskey, molasses, licorice, light cocoa and oak. Finishes with light cocoa infused dark malt and somewhat stark whiskey. Nice creamy, oatmeal influenced body. This is one mellow imperial stout for its size. The malt body has everything expected in dark malts, cocoa, molasses and even a little licorice, but the whiskey has the driver's seat. I like the base stout, and this makes me want to try it next time I'm in California, but while flavorful enough, the whiskey really pushes it into the background. Enjoyable and well done, but a little unbalanced. Looks and feels great. One of the last bottles from my trip to San Diego last year.
