From a 16oz can with no date on it.
This beer is just totally pitch black looking in my glass, with no chance of any light shininh through. I have a 2 finger brown fluffy head in my glass. This head has great retention, but leaves no lacing on the glass.
I am getting pleasing dark chocolate notes on the nose. The dark chocolate has a nice richness to it. I also get a faint hint of smoke in this beer as well that adds a nice finish to my nose.
The flavor is a nice ride. I get dark chocolate up front. This gets added to in the middle by a nice hint of smoke. Finish is more dark chocolate plus a hint of licorice. There's a nice bitterness on the finish that ties all the flavors together well.
The body is very smooth feeling. There's a nice fullness to it. Nice smooth bitterness feeling, if that makes sense.
Wow, Hammerheart did it again, yet again. This beer is damn solid and delicious.

750ml bottle. Waxed and capped bottle. Bottling date of '02.01.17'.
Opaque black colored body. One finger of tan head quickly dissipates to a bubble fed ring. Spots of lacing slide back down into body.
Aroma of smoke and chocolate.
Taste of smoky chocolate, dark roasted malts. No real bitterness. Dry finish.
Medium plus mouthfeel. A little bit of fizzy on the tongue. Good carbonation.
Solid thick stout with chocolate and smoke. Smooth and tasty.

L: deep dark brown pour permeated with small bubbles slowly rising to the surface with a firm, medium foam cap with good retention and a very fine bead.
S: smoke, dark dried fruit, and hints of funk, alcohol, chocolate, coffee and fruit.
T: smoke, coffee, dark dried fruit, a light tartness, and chocolate give it a rustic feel. Has a little lactic sweetness and a slight lactic tang. Good balance between smoke, chocolate and coffee.
F: Very creamy in the mouth. Medium full to full body, a mild alcohol warming, and medium, very fine soft carbonation.
O: The brewer starts with bold flavors but uses a deft hand to achieve a balance that makes this a very pleasant, full flavored, drinkable beer.

Appearance: Black, good brown head.
Smell: Leafy smoke, tobacco ash.
Taste: Very dry dark chocolate, followed by smoke and ash. Very dry throughout but not astringent.
Overall: Skoll Och Hati is a smoked stout that starts dry and stays dry. Some previous batches have had a little more chocolate influence shining through. The chocolate is in there, but it is secondary to the smoke, at least in this batch.

750 ml mini growler from the brewery. Poured into a Hammerheart tulip glass.
Appearance: Pours midnight black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a solid finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy patch.
Smell: A roasty and smokey dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate and smoke. Dark roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, toast, biscuit, grains, and caramel with yeast. Hints of earthy hops. A pretty nice aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a roasty and smokey dark malt forward taste with notes of chocolate and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of bitter dark chocolate, coffee, toast, smoke, biscuit, grains, and caramel along with some yeast. A little burnt sugar sweetness. Light earthy hop bitterness. A pretty good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, drying, and smooth.
Overall: A pretty good Stout. Nice bitter chocolate and smoke flavor with a moderate body.

Aroma balances bacon smoke and roast malt nicely, with hints of campfire and cocoa.
Flavor is more cocoa dominant throughout, with bacon and smoke fading to roast bitterness in the finish.

It's thick and exceptionally dark, just a touch of bark brown and red around the top. I poured from a growler and despite a nice pop when I twisted the top, there is no head to speak of. It starts to form in a cascading fashion with dark brown bubbles, but never turns into a head.
Bittersweet chocolate and charred roasty grains in the nose and the taste...there's just nothing else there, other than a splash of alcohol in the taste,
It's very smooth and a bit on the thick side. Lots of smokey feel with an underlying gentle bitterness that lasts throughout.
It's not at all what I expected when I picked up the growler, I was told it was an American stout. It's more of a smoked, chocolate beer. Not bad though.

this brewery is so awesome, i loved the idea of smoked and wood aged beers, and the vibe here was amazing. the beer was highly inspired, and this was one of the best they had. its a smoked chocolate stout, and its so much different than it sounds, or at least like any other i have had. its not super viscous in the appearance, but it is very very dark, about black, with a puffy mocha head on it that settles down slow. the nose is so different than i expected it to be, quite smokey, but not the german rauch type, its very intense, less lingering, more up front, maybe a different wood on the malt, maybe different mash pattern, tough to say, but its brand new to me. there isnt much bitterness from the roast, but there is a coffee character going on. i also really like the way the chocolate is so dark and earthy, coming on very late almost entirely after the smoke. thats about the only place where bitterness comes from, and the overall feel of this is very smooth, even though its a little thin in the body. the relative lack of carbonation helps it feel richer, and the finish is long and woodsy, nordic even, it tastes like the place looks, old and viking in some way. i loved this, and smoked beers are not always my thing. this place is amazing.

Strong on the chocolate, with just the right amount of smoke.
