750 ml mini growler from the brewery. Poured into a Hammerheart tulip glass.
Appearance: Pours midnight black with a moderate amount of bubbles. Slight finger of tan head that quickly fades into a thin creamy patch.
Smell: A roasty and rich dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, bourbon, and smoke. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, toast, biscuit, and caramel with some yeast. Barrel hints of bourbon whiskey, oak, vanilla, and wood. Sweet hints of molasses. Subtle dark fruit hints. A really good smell.
Taste: Like it smells, a rich and roasty dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, smoke, and bourbon. Dark roasted barley malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, biscuit, burnt toast, and caramel along with yeast. Barrel notes of bourbon whiskey, wood, oak, and vanilla. Sweet taste of molasses. Light dark fruit undertones of fig and prune. A pretty good taste.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and silky. Alcohol heat is masked pretty well.
Overall: A very good Barrel Aged Stout. Good mix of chocolate, smoke, and barrel flavor.
