On tap at the Hammerheart taproom. 10 oz. serving in a chalice.
Appearance: Color is midnight black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a small finger of tan head which settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A rich and roasty dark malt driven aroma with a scent of whiskey, chocolate, smoke, and pepper. Upfront barrel scent of whiskey, oak, vanilla, and wood. Hints of smoke and hot peppers. Roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, coffee, toast, biscuit, and caramel with yeast. Sweet scent of molasses. Also some hints of leather, tobacco, and dark fruit. A very good aroma.
Taste: Like the nose indicates, a rich and roasty dark malt driven taste with notes of whiskey, chocolate, smoke, and peppers. Good barrel presence with notes of whiskey, vanilla, oak, and wood. Some notes of smoke and hot pepper heat. Roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, biscuit, toast, and caramel along with some yeast. Sweet taste of molasses. Also some subtle notes of leather, tobacco, anise, and dark fruit. A really good taste.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich, slick, and creamy. Alcohol heat is hidden well.
Overall: A great Barrel Aged version of Thor's Porter. Good barrel presence that blends well with the pepper and smokey Porter base.
