750 ml mini growler from the brewery. Poured into a Hammerheart tulip glass.
Appearance: Pours midnight black with a moderate amount of bubbles. Solid finger of tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A roasty and rich dark malt driven aroma with a scent of chocolate, smoke, and aquavit. Solid barrel scent of aquavit liquor. Dark roasted malt with a scent of dark chocolate, smoke, coffee, toast, biscuit, and yeast. Mild hints of earthy hops and spruce tips. Sweet hints of molasses. A very nice aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a rich and roasty dark malt driven taste with notes of chocolate, smoke, and aquavit liquor. Nice barrel notes of aquavit liquor. Dark roasted malt with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, smoke, biscuit, toast, and yeast. Light notes of spruce tips and earthy hops. Sweet taste of molasses. A very good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium to full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, slick, and fairly chewy.
Overall: A very good barrel aged take on a pretty good Porter. Nice mix of aquavit barrel and roast notes.
