Had on tap. Very dark brown body with a tan head with thick chunks of lacing. Smells strongly of char, earth, pine, smoke and nordic winter spices, hints of toasted caramel, toast and coffee grounds linger. Taste accentuates the smoky and earthy elements with the spice finishing. Very robust complexion, feel is earthy, chewy, smoky, and on the finish, well hopped. Great for the dead of winter when you need something rugged to warm you up! Points for originality

On nitro tap at the Hammerheart taproom. 10 oz. serving in a chalice.
Appearance: Color is jet black. Moderate amount of bubbles and a big two finger light tan head that settles into a thin creamy layer.
Smell: A spicy and toasty aroma with a scent of winter spices, roast, and earthy hops. Big upfront spice presence with a scent of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, allspice, clove, and ginger. Dark roasted malt with hints of chocolate, toast, smoke, biscuit, caramel, and toffee along with yeast. Earthy hop hints of grass and pine. Slight citrus hints. A very nice aroma.
Taste: Like it smells, a spicy and toasty taste with notes of winter spices, roast, and earthy hops. Big taste of spices with upfront notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, cardamom, and ginger. Dark roasted malt with notes of chocolate, toast, smoke, biscuit, grains, toffee, and caramel along with some yeast. Earthy hop notes of grass and pine with a little citrus. A pretty good taste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Very creamy and smooth with no alcohol heat.
Overall: A really good spiced up Black Ale. Very nice blend of winter spices.
