750 mL bottle. Amber body. Big khaki head. Smells of peat, smoke, scotch, strong phenolic yeast, and bread. Tastes of even strong scotch and peat. Smoke. Leather and strong earthy flavors. Beyond earthy. Slightly sharp. Bready and a little sweet. Medium heavy. It's fascinating in a weird and intriguing way. I can't say I'd drink much of it, but I'd share this at holidays with family. That kind of a beer.

Appearance: Cloudy orange-brown, good head.
Smell: Big smoked meat, sweet barbeque sauce.
Taste: Sweet malt then smoky/iodine peat. Floods in with more sweetness and earthiness throughout. A little muddled.
Overall: Gravlingens Hamnd is islay scotch barrel-aged Stjordal. I love peaty scotch and I loved Stjordal, so I was pretty excited for this. I really liked Stjordal with its sweet smoke and light peatiness. Gravlingens Hamnd throws it over to the peaty side a bit too far, the smoked meat and iodine kind of fight with each other. I still recommend it despite not quite hitting the mark with me.
